Mutabar Tadjibaeva describes the deplorable state of human rights in Uzbekistan and tells the story of her arrest and imprisonment for her human rights advocacy. She recounts how she was arrested on charges of “anti-government activities” in 2005 and endured three years of solitary confinement, abuse, and forced psychiatric treatment. Tadjibaeva explains that the only thing that gave her hope during her imprisonment was international support—the knowledge that someone somewhere was fighting for her. Tadjibaeva hopes that the international community will continue to provide similar support for all Uzbekistan political prisoners imprisoned today.
