After being invited to speak at the Oslo Freedom Forum, Bahrain Center for Human Rights President Nabeel Rajab was arrested for speaking out about human rights abuses in Bahraini prison. Said Yousif Almuhafdah, vice president of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, traveled to Oslo to read a letter Rajab wrote from prison, in which he highlights the ongoing oppression in Bahrain. Raja also laments Western democracies’ support for the Kingdom, arguing that this misguided approach is halting progress in the region. Rajab thanks the Norwegian government and international civil society groups for their support,and stresses that dialogue with the Bahraini people must continue for any lasting change to happen.
