Faisal Saeed Al Mutar experienced the villainy of extremism and authoritarian regimes firsthand, surviving the Iraq War, the murder of his brother, and several kidnapping attempts before becoming a refugee in the United States. A practitioner of countering extremism and misinformation, he founded the organization Ideas Beyond Borders, a nonprofit dedicated to developing and implementing international programs to empower individuals with knowledge often suppressed by authoritarian dictatorships. Faisal received the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Barack Obama, the Beacon Award from the Ellis Island Honors Society, and currently serves on the leadership council at the World Liberty Congress.

Faisal Saeed Al Mutar is a social entrepreneur and media executive focused on advancing free markets, critical thinking, and economic opportunity in the Middle East. As the founder and president of Ideas Beyond Borders (IBB), Faisal has built a leading platform for translating classical liberal thought, promoting innovation, and supporting policy reform across the Arab world, particularly in Iraq. Under his leadership, IBB has expanded access to knowledge, supported entrepreneurship, and championed reforms that reduce bureaucracy to create pathways for growth. Faisal collaborates with intergovernmental institutions and private sector leaders to identify scalable solutions in complex societies. His work bridges economic development and media strategy to empower individuals with the tools needed to build stable communities. He serves as a non-resident fellow at the Program on Extremism at George Washington University and a non-resident scholar at the Center for Governance and Markets at the University of Pittsburgh. A sought-after speaker, Faisal has delivered talks on global platforms, including TED. He is a recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Barack Obama and holds an honorary doctorate from Whittier College. Based in New York, Faisal works to build institutions that transcend sectarian divisions and expand opportunity across the Middle East.
