Join us for the Freedom Tech track at OFF
More than 6.2 billion people today live under authoritarian rule. In these environments, dissidents and independent voices face bank account freezes, censorship, internet shutdowns, and digital surveillance.
Increasingly, the same financial systems and online platforms they rely on every day are being used to monitor, restrict, and silence them. As digital infrastructure becomes more centralized and programmable, repression is becoming easier to automate and scale at a speed previously thought unimaginable.
The Oslo Freedom Forum (OFF)’s Freedom Tech track examines both sides of this reality: how dictators deploy technology to crack down on dissent and opposition, as well as how democracy advocates use open-source freedom tech to push back against repression.
Taking place on June 2, 2026, at the 2026 Oslo Freedom Forum in Oslo, Norway, this five-hour track brings human rights defenders together with the developers creating tools that protect free speech, financial freedom, and civil liberties. From open-source money like Bitcoin to decentralized communications networks like Nostr and emerging open-source AI, the Freedom Tech track uncovers the technologies that help civil society groups operate, organize, and endure under even the most repressive regimes.
