Ukrainian democracy activist Yulia Marushevska asks the world to stand with her country in its struggle to become the kind of free society often taken for granted in the West. Marushevska describes how corrupt politicians, bribes, rigged elections, and a smothered press culminated in the 2014 Euromaidan protests, a reflection of the Ukrainian people’s desire to rid themselves of this culture of kleptocracy and impunity. Despite the aggression of Russia in Ukraine’s east, Marushevska is confident that when human rights defenders join together and speak loudly, they can create a better world for all.
