From Stardom to the Political Underground

Vietnamese pop singer Mai Khoi was banned from singing publicly in her country after nominating herself as an independent candidate in the 2016 parliamentary elections. Mai Khoi aims to educate the Vietnamese people about the meaning of human rights, which is often censored and controlled by restrictions to political opposition. She hopes that her music and art will continue to inspire others to support freedom of expression and democracy for those silenced in Vietnam.
