Belarusian opposition activist Alyaksandr Kazulin tells the heart-wrenching story of his time as a political prisoner in Belarus and his courageous campaign for the presidency against Alexander Lukashenko, widely considered Europe’s last remaining dictator. The legal system in Belarus has been crushed, Kazulin explains, while civil rights have been suppressed and all media outlets destroyed. Kazulin implores the audience to fight dictatorship together as they would fight against a disease, because “dictatorship is similar to allowing an infection to be spread.” He also reminds the audience that “those who continue to live in fear will never be free.”
