Felix Maradiaga is a Nicaraguan democracy advocate who was arrested in 2021 for leading a nonviolent movement against President Daniel Ortega, imprisoned for three years, and exiled. Maradiaga joins us on the 2023 Oslo Freedom Forum stage to share his reunion with his wife and daughter, his experience in prison, and his ideas on fighting against dictatorship.

Nicaraguan pro-democracy advocate and former prisoner of conscience

Félix Maradiaga is a political activist dedicated to strengthening peace, democracy, and the rule of law in Nicaragua. An outspoken critic of President Daniel Ortega, Maradiaga was arrested in 2021 after deciding to run for president. He was held in the infamous Chipote prison for nearly two years. In February, he and 221 other prisoners of conscience were released and sent to the United States.
