Fatma Karume is a prominent Tanzanian lawyer and advocate of the rule of law and human rights. Her vocal dissent and courageous defense of democracy during Tanzania’s authoritarian slide under the late President John Magufuli led to her office being bombed in 2017 and her disbarment in 2020, which was overturned by the High Court in 2021.
