Thomas Glave is a Jamaican-American author, LGBTQ rights activist, and founder of the Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals, and Gays (J-FLAG). In his speech at the Oslo Freedom Forum, Glave discloses that he views himself primarily as a writer, not an activist, so he chooses to share a story that conveys all the antagonism and violence the LGBTQ community in his country faces.

Thomas Glave is a Jamaican-American author, LGBT rights activist, and founder of the Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals, and Gays (J-FLAG). He is the author of “Whose Song? and Other Stories,” nominated by the American Library Association for “Best Gay/Lesbian Book of the Year,” and “The Torturer’s Wife.” Glave is the recipient of the O. Henry Prize for fiction and a 2021 Fulbright Scholar. He has taught at the University of Virginia, Brown University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a professor of English and Africana studies at Binghamton University, State University of New York.
