Zumretay Arkin is a Uyghur-Canadian human rights activist dedicated to advocating for Uyghur rights. Born in Ürümqi, China, she later moved to Canada. Arkin serves as the director of global advocacy and vice president at the World Uyghur Congress (WUC), promoting democracy, human rights, and freedom for the Uyghur people. She chairs the women’s committee at WUC, focusing on the challenges faced by Uyghur women, and founded a global Uyghur women’s friendship group. Arkin’s advocacy has earned her the 2024 Freedom of Worship Award from the Roosevelt Foundation. She engages with international bodies, including the United Nations, to raise awareness of the Uyghur community’s struggles and secure global support.
