Somaly Mam

Cambodian anti-trafficking advocate

Somaly Mam is a Cambodian human rights activist who works to empower victims of sex trafficking. She explains how she dedicated her life to helping free women and children from sexual slavery by founding AFESIP, an organization that works with the Cambodian police to shut down brothels and provide rehabilitative services for former victims. Mam encourages people to treat survivors of slavery and sex trafficking not as victims, but as human beings, and argues that empowering them is the best way to begin the healing process.
