Roxana Saberi is an independent journalist, writer, and storyteller with more than two decades of experience as a foreign and domestic correspondent. Over the past year, she has covered Iran extensively from the United States, contributing to The New York Times, TIME, and The Times of London, while offering analysis on Iran on CNN, ABC News and BBC World.
Saberi previously served as a correspondent for CBS News, based in London, Chicago, and New York, reporting across Europe, the US, and the Middle East, as well as Antarctica. Earlier, at Al Jazeera America, Saberi reported on breaking news and investigations and created a human rights beat. From 2003 to 2009, she lived and reported in Iran for the BBC and other outlets, covering nuclear diplomacy, culture, and society across the region.
In 2009, while researching a book, she was wrongfully imprisoned in Tehran’s Evin Prison for 100 days. After her release, she authored the memoir “Between Two Worlds” and became an advocate for press freedom and human rights. She also co-wrote “No One Knows About Persian Cats,” a film about underground music in Iran, which won a Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009.
