Guardian columnist and author of The Power and the Glory

Jonathan Wilson is a columnist for the Guardian and World Soccer. He set up and co-hosts the Libero and It Was What It Was podcasts, and he is the founder and editor of The Blizzard. He has written a novel and 13 works of football history, including Inverting the Pyramid: A History of Football Tactics, Angels With Dirty Faces: the Footballing History of Argentina, and The Power and the Glory, a New History of the World Cup. His books have won awards in the UK, Poland, and Italy and he has been named Football Writer of the Year a record four times by the Football Supporters Association. He is a former football correspondent of the Financial Times, and his work has also appeared in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, and Sports Illustrated. He presented the documentary “The Curious Case of River Plate,” which will be released later this year. Born in Sunderland, he now lives in London. In 2023, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Sunderland.
