Jonathan Duarte is a Nicaraguan-American pro-democracy activist, political strategist, and human rights advocate focused on confronting authoritarianism across Latin America. As Executive Director of the Nicaraguan Freedom Foundation, he leads international advocacy efforts documenting the Ortega-Murillo regime’s human rights abuses, transnational repression, and systematic attacks on civil society.
Duarte has advised political leaders and electoral campaigns across the Americas and is a consistent voice for democratic resistance in Nicaragua and the broader region. His work centers on political prisoners, press freedom, and the growing coordination among authoritarian regimes in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
He serves as Regional Secretary for the Americas at the World Liberty Congress and is an alumnus of the Human Rights Foundation Freedom Fellowship and an inaugural fellow of the Institute for Freedom of the Americas. Through these roles, he has participated in international democracy forums, human rights summits, and policy discussions across the Americas and Europe, advocating for solidarity with political prisoners, persecuted dissidents, and exiled democratic activists.
