Christopher Balding is a leading expert on the Chinese economy and financial markets. His research focuses on Chinese corporations like Huawei and Chinese banks and covers topics from their ownership structure and intelligence-gathering activities to their financial statement disclosures. He is currently a professor at the Fulbright University of Vietnam after spending nine years at the HSBC Business School of Peking University Graduate School in Shenzhen, China. Prof. Balding co-authored the groundbreaking paper “Who Owns Huawei?” which shed light on the Chinese regime’s control of the multinational company. He has appeared on Bloomberg, Nikkei Asia, Foreign Affairs, Financial Times, and Aljazeera, among others.
