When the Oslo Freedom Forum (OFF) first started, it was a one-time gathering to celebrate those who bravely challenged 20th-century fascism, communism, and despotic military rule. Fifteen years later, more than 350 dissident voices from over 100 countries have shared stories of bravery and resilience at OFF.
Millions have now witnessed how seemingly ordinary citizens can challenge the world’s deadliest tyrants, willing to speak out against them and even risk arrest, torture, or death. In turn, OFF has given life to unique partnerships, collaborations, impact, and support for at-risk advocates and civil society organizations.
The theme of the 15th annual OFF, “Celebrating Solidarity,” honored the unity and community that the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) and our innumerable friends around the world have fostered over the last decade and a half. We recognized that only together can we truly unravel tyranny.
Hosted on June 13-15, 2023, the event featured speakers like Nicaraguan democracy advocate Félix Maradiaga, Iranian actress and human rights activist Nazanin Boniadi, Swazi human rights lawyer Mzwandile Masuku, and many more.
In the 15th edition of the Oslo Freedom Forum, we celebrated the solidarity, unity, mentorship, and community that HRF and our global community have fostered in the last 15 years.
What we are facing today is something of a very different magnitude, and that is why we need to hear the voices that will make dictators tremble.
