Azadeh Afsahi is a licensed psychotherapist, humanitarian, and founder of Houses Inc., a global network of virtual healing homes supporting survivors of political imprisonment, torture, displacement, and state violence. She holds dual master’s degrees in counseling psychology and business psychology and is currently a PhD candidate. Her work focuses on providing trauma-informed mental health care, humanitarian aid, legal support, and pathways to reintegration for individuals affected by conflict and repression, particularly former political prisoners. Through her work, Afsahi explores the intersection of trauma, exile, identity, and resilience, with a particular focus on communities surviving systemic violence, repression, and displacement. Drawing from both clinical experience and a lived understanding of exile and displacement, Afsahi advocates for culturally responsive approaches to healing that often differ from traditional Western mental health models.
In response to the lack of pathways to justice for survivors in Iran, Afsahi began advocating internationally for the recognition of mental health as a human rights issue. Her work has brought survivor testimonies and the psychological impact of torture to the United Nations, international human rights forums, and TEDx Oxford.
