Indian rights advocate Vincent Manoharan gives a revealing presentation about his country’s social structure. Dalits, or “Untouchables,” are members of the lowest segment of India’s discriminatory caste system. In modern India, they are treated as subhuman – they suffer from systematic segregation and humiliation. Despite this disheartening situation, Manoharan has hope that his people can overcome the obstacles that stand in their way to equal treatment before the law. The Dalits’ fight for human dignity is one that Manoharan champions, as he declares at the close of his speech: “We will win!”
