Nathan Law is a young Hong Kong activist, currently in exile and based in London. He was elected as the youngest lawmaker in Hong Kong’s history but was disqualified in July 2017 following a reinterpretation of Hong Kong’s Basic Law by China. Law was one of the student leaders during the 2014 Umbrella Movement and co-founder of Demosistō, a pro-democracy political party. In 2018, he and his fellow youth activists Joshua Wong and Alex Chow were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by a group of US congressmen and British parliament members. Law has been exiled in the United Kingdom since 2020 and continues to give a voice to the Hong Kong people at the international level. He made the Time 100 and was invited as the only speaker from Hong Kong to the Summit for Democracy hosted by the Biden administration in 2021. That same year, he published “Freedom: How we lose it and how we fight back,” a poignant manifesto on China’s aggressive takeover of Hong Kong. Law is currently wanted by the Hong Kong police alongside eight other exiled activists as a result of their advocacy.
