American hedge fund manager Bill Browder tells the story of his lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, who uncovered fraud and theft by Russian officials who seized Browder’s company in 2006. Magnitsky died in custody after 11 months of imprisonment and torture while awaiting trial. Browder launched a global campaign to bring justice to Magnitsky’s killers, a campaign that resulted in the Magnitsky Act, a groundbreaking U.S. law that prohibits Russian officials responsible for his death from entering the U.S.and from using the U.S. banking system.
