Joe Lonsdale is an American tech entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist. In 2004, Lonsdale cofounded Palantir Technologies, an analytics software company that processes data primarily in defense and finance. Lonsdale went on to found Addepar, an investment management technology company, and venture capital firm Formation 8, a precursor fund to 8VC. In 2012, he co-founded OpenGov, a technology platform that offers cloud-based software for public sector budgeting, reporting, and open data, changing the way governments access and analyze their financial data. With OpenGov’s Smart Government Platform, state and local governments of all sizes can create more effective budgets and achieve greater transparency between elected bodies and citizens. Joe was the youngest member included in the Forbes 100 Midas List in 2016 and 2017. Lonsdale is widely regarded for his philanthropy and served as Chairman of California Common Sense, a nonpartisan nonprofit committed to developing data-driven policy analysis and opening government to the public in California.
