Toribia Lero Quispe is an indigenous rights, women’s rights, and pro-democracy advocate from Bolivia. She currently serves as a member of the country’s Legislative Assembly and has become a leader of the democratic opposition. Toribia is one of the elected representatives who was affected by the 2019 electoral fraud committed by strongman Evo Morales and certified by election observers from the Organization of American States and the European Union, which led to Morales’ resignation. For opposing the authoritarianism of Morales’ ‘Movement Toward Socialism’ party, Toribia and her fellow Bolivian democrats routinely face violence, intimidation, and widespread judicial persecution.
