Havel Prize - Stand Up For Ukraine

Stand Up for Ukraine

Ukrainian anti-war creative movement

“Stand Up for Ukraine” is an inspiring project that combines music and activism in solidarity with Ukraine in its fight for freedom and independence. Initiated after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the project brought together Ukrainian singer Elizaveta Izmalkova and 300 Lithuanians to perform the viral Ukrainian folk song “Chervona Kalina,”  becoming a symbol of Ukraine’s resilience and freedom. This powerful initiative not only attracted the attention of millions around the world but also highlighted the importance of art and culture in the fight against tyranny and in support of human dignity. “Stand Up for Ukraine” was awarded the 2023 Václav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent.
