Jesùs Roldan is a Venezuelan satirist, stand-up comedian, and part of El Chigüire Bipolar, a popular satirical news website that won HRF’s Václav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent in 2017. Roldán is also creative director at Plop Content, El Chigüire Bipolar’s parent company. Throughout Venezuela’s political crisis, El Chigüire Bipolar has offered an important source for both levity and incisive political commentary as the government increases pressure on independent news outlets. El Chigüire Bipolar’s readership now exceeds that of many leading Venezuelan newspapers. Roldán and his colleagues hope the site will enable multifaceted debate in Venezuela and allow for a plethora of voices to be heard.
