Defying Gender-Based Violence in Authoritarian Regimes

June 5, 2024
12:00-13:00

This panel will explore the intersection of gender-based violence and women’s rights activism in countries ruled by authoritarian regimes. Panelists will reflect on the violence perpetrated by regimes against women and LGBTQ+ individuals, and the ways in which civil society has resisted — from Uganda, to Cuba, to Kazakhstan and Russia. The panel will shed light on the critical role women have played and continue to play in global movements, paving the way for a more just future.
