Fred Bauma has spent the last six years promoting democracy in his country through nonviolent protest. He is known among activists as “Congo’s Gandhi.” Bauma and other members of his youth organization, LUCHA, have been repeatedly abused and imprisoned for challenging President Joseph Kabila’s corrupt administration. At the 2018 Oslo Freedom Forum, Bauma shares how these experiences have only bolstered his determination to see the Democratic Republic of the Congo live up to its name.
