Memory Banda’s little sister was sent off to be married at the age of 11. Since that time, she has dedicated herself to eradicating the practice of child marriage, not just in her native Malawi, but throughout the world. At the first Oslo Freedom Forum in Johannesburg, Memory took the stage to tell the story of how she was able to work with other young people to convince the Malawian government to raise the legal age of marriage to 18, and how this campaign lead to other countries banning child marriage.
