Aayat Alqormozi
Middle East and North Africa
|

Aayat Alqormozi became a symbol of peaceful defiance during the Arab Spring, when she was tracked down and imprisoned for reading her poetry out loud. At OFF in Taiwan, she told the story of her wrongful imprisonment, and how she continues to use her poetry as a call for social justice and equal rights for Shi’ite and Sunni Muslims in Bahrain.
