Orwell, Spraypaint, and the Fight to Free Cuba

Danilo 'El Sexto' Maldonado

Danilo Maldonado, better known as “El Sexto,” is a Cuban graffiti artist and activist. In the face of constant threats from the government, he uses his art as a form of creative dissent. El Sexto was scheduled to speak at last year’s Oslo Freedom Forum, but was arrested by the Cuban regime for painting two pigs with the names “Fidel” and “Raul.” Now free, he took the stage at the Oslo Freedom Forum to tell us why he refuses to be silenced and how he’s using his art to call for freedom for the Cuban people.
