
After Gambian former beauty queen Fatou Toufah Jallow suffered sexual assault by the former dictator Yahya Jammeh at the age of 18, she refused to hide in shame and anonymity and took her story public, breaking the culture of silence around sexual violence in her country and inspiring Gambia’s #MeToo movement. She shares her experiences of growing up in Jammeh’s dictatorship, surviving sexual assault, and advocating for accountability, reforms, safe spaces and support for survivors in The Gambia.
