From Egypt to Taiwan: Shared Hopes for LGBTQ Equality

Since Egyptian actor, model, and activist Omar Sharif Jr. revealed he was gay in 2013, he left the country in a wake of backlash and saw his Egyptian passport revoked. Just prior to Taiwan’s marriage equality referendum, Sharif spoke at the first Oslo Freedom Forum in Taiwan to highlight the country’s thriving community of inclusivity as a model for the promotion of LGBTQ rights in the Middle East and around the world.
