Before the Arab Spring, Abdalaziz’s hometown of Raqqa, Syria was not well known.. That changed during the Syrian Civil War. Since Raqqa has become the epicenter of ISIS activity in Syria, Abdalaziz and his fellow citizen journalists, members of the group Raqqa Is Being Silently Slaughtered, have reported on the crimes committed by ISIS and the Assad regime under the threat of execution.
