Palestinian journalist Asmaa al-Ghoul describes the struggles of journalists in Gaza—faced with both Israeli forces and the rule of Hamas and Fatah. She explains how sectarian divisions have made it impossible for the news in Palestine to be reported objectively, as every group desperately attempts to impose its ideology, no matter what the costs to human rights. Al-Ghoul argues that journalists must treat freedom of speech with the same reverence that their opponents treat religion and ideology—only then can freedom of speech flourish in Palestine.
