After the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, many intellectuals thought that liberal democracies would finally reign supreme. In this talk, Garry Kasparov describes how evil and tyranny never truly vanish; they merely bide their time until advocates of freedom and democracy become complacent. While this anti-democratic trend is worrying, Kasparov reminds us that we should never tire in our defense of these universal values.
