In a country with only one government-run television station, performing artist Silvanos Mudzvova uses the power of theater to give a “voice to the voiceless” in Zimbabwe. Silvanos engages in “hit and run” theater, breaking into performance on the streets and in front of government buildings to shed light on issues within the dictatorship. Despite the numerous arrests and torture he has faced at the hands of the Mugabe government, Silvanos continues to speak truth to power through his art. Silvanos was a 2017 Václav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent laureate and accepted his award at the Oslo Freedom Forum.
