
Indonesian stand up comedian Sakdiyah Ma’ruf accepts the Václav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent at the 2015 Oslo Freedom Forum. Ma’ruf performs part of her routine, in which she touches on issues including hijabi culture, gender expectations, and class differences.She explains that she sees comedy as a way to celebrate humanity, despite its flaws. Dedicating her award to the voiceless, Ma’ruf thanks those who, in the face of violence and fear, continue to say, “Let’s try again tomorrow.”
