Saudi women’s rights advocate Manal al-Sharif accepts the inaugural Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent at the 2012 Oslo Freedom Forum. Al-Sharif dedicates her award to the 11 million Saudi women still struggling “to drive their own life and destiny.” Echoing Havel’s thoughts on his own transformation into a dissident, al-Sharif explains, “there are things in life where you don’t choose them; they choose you.”
