Financial Times’ Europe-China correspondent

Yuan Yang, the former Financial Times’ Europe-China correspondent, returned to the United Kingdom after six years in China, where she served as deputy bureau chief. Before pursuing journalism, Yuan co-founded Rethinking Economics, a charity based in the UK dedicated to advocating for a more practical approach to economics. As a board member of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of China, she is also dedicated to defending press freedoms. Yuan’s forthcoming book, “Private Revolutions: Four Women Face China’s New Social Order,” is scheduled for release in 2024. Named a Most Anticipated Book of 2024 by the BBC, her book offers a look into the rise and fall of social mobility in China.
