Tobias Rose-Stockwell is an author, designer, and technologist whose work has been featured in The Atlantic, WIRED, NPR, the BBC, and CNN, among others. His forthcoming book, “Outrage Machine: How Tech Amplifies Discontent, Disrupts Democracy—And What We Can Do About It,” delves into the intricacies of social dynamics within digital media platforms. It examines how their algorithms favor content that sparks strong emotional responses, thus fueling cycles of anger and confusion. His book underscores the profound ripple effects of this phenomenon on democracies, social movements, and even intimate personal relationships. Earlier in his career, Rose-Stockwell led humanitarian projects concentrating on civil-war reconstruction efforts in Southeast Asia. For his efforts, he was honored with an award from the 14th Dalai Lama.
