Pravit Rojanaphruk

Persecuted Thai journalist and dissident

Pravit Rojanaphruk is a Thai journalist who advocates for press freedom. For 20 years, he wrote a regular column for The Nation, one of the largest English-language dailies in Thailand. Rojanaphruk is well known for his pro-democracy and pro-free-expression views. In 2012, he was investigated seven times by the Thai authorities on suspicion of violating the country’s draconian lese majesty law. He was later arrested following the May 2014 military coup and detained for “disturbing public order and undermining peace.” He was released on the condition that he not participate in any protests or take part in political meetings. He is a senior staff writer for Khaosod English, a news outlet that publishes critical coverage of Thailand’s junta.
