
Mauricio Alarcón Salvador is an Ecuadorian democracy activist and human rights defender. He is the Founder and Executive Director of Ciudadanía y Desarrollo, an organization that promotes democracy, transparency, and open government. From 2009 to 2017, Alarcón Salvador was part of Fundamedios, Ecuador’s most prominent free press watchdog, which was relentlessly attacked by Rafael Correa’s authoritarian government. He has been recognized by the National Endowment for Democracy with the “30 under 30” award, as one of the 30 most inspiring young activists in the world working for a democratic future. He was a fellow at Stanford University’s Center for Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law.
