Laura Chinchilla Miranda served as President of Costa Rica from 2010 to 2014. Before her tenure as Costa Rica’s first female president, Chinchilla served as vice president and minister of justice, and her election was preceded by a successful political career in both the public and international sectors. Throughout her presidency, Chinchilla successfully prompted measures on key institutional reforms of the Costa Rican government, the promotion of the rights of women, the protection of children, and environmental sustainability. She is active on global agenda issues and part of a number of initiatives promoting democracy and human rights, including the Inter-American Dialogue and the Club de Madrid, where she currently serves as vice president.
