Hannah Song

North Korean human rights activist

Hannah Song is president and CEO of Liberty in North Korea (LiNK), an international nonprofit organization that raises awareness of the North Korean human rights crisis and provides direct resettlement support to North Korean refugee communities. Prior to joining LiNK, Song worked in corporate advertising, focusing her work on digital media and emerging technologies. After reading the memoirs of refugees and survivors of North Korean gulags, Song dedicated her work to improving the plight of North Koreans. In 2006, after reading “The Aquariums of Pyongyang” by North Korean defector Kang Chol-Hwan, Song joined LiNK as deputy director, managing day-to-day operations and the coordination of overseas programming. She headed projects such as the establishment of safe houses and shelters for refugees, “underground railroad” activities, and fact-finding missions. She established LiNK’s shelter in Southeast Asia and implemented Liberty House, the organization’s refugee resettlement initiative. As president of LiNK, Song continues to direct all overseas and field operations,and works on advocacy and policy issues with governments and institutions.
