Berta Valle

Nicaraguan journalist and pro-democracy activist

Berta Valle is a Nicaraguan journalist, human rights activist, and vocal critic of the Daniel Ortega regime. She’s married to pro-democracy activist, former presidential candidate, and OFF speaker Félix Maradiaga, who was imprisoned in an unprecedented crackdown on the opposition prior to the 2021 elections. Valle has worked tirelessly to bring international attention to the plight of political prisoners in Nicaragua. Her activism played a pivotal role in the release of her husband and more than 200 other political prisoners in 2023. Now living in exile, she continues to advocate for the restoration of democracy and the liberation of the rest of the political prisoners.
