Nasako Besingi

Cameroonian environmental activist and civil society leader

Nasako Besingi is a social and environmental activist and a sustainable farmer from Cameroon. Besingi is the founder of the Struggle to Economize Future Environment (SEFE), an NGO that establishes mangroves and wetlands as protected areas and works to stop deforestation caused by palm oil plantations. Besingi speaks out against Cameroon’s human rights violations, including those against the country’s English-speaking minority, who have called for greater political and economic representation in recent years. In 2017, during a widespread crackdown on dissent in Cameroon, he was detained for his vocal support of civil rights protests in the country’s anglophone regions.
