Belarus Free Theatre

Belarusian dissident theater group

Belarus Free Theater is an avant-garde theater group from Belarus, founded in 2005 in response to the repressive political climate and censorship in the country. The company has established itself internationally with its bold and provocative productions that challenge authoritarianism, human rights violations, and social taboos in Belarus. The activism of the Belarus Free Theater is not only manifested in their creativity but also in the organization of educational programs and public events aimed at supporting freedom of speech and democratic changes in the country. They were awarded the 2018 Václav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent.
