Julie Sunday is the assistant deputy minister for consular, security, and emergency management at Global Affairs Canada. This includes responsibility for advancing the Canada-led Declaration Against Arbitrary Detention in State-to-State Relations. She was also named Canada’s first senior official for hostage affairs in October 2023, and has been engaging diplomatically to support the release of hostages abroad.
